Sunday 20 June

Buckingham Reserve; Buckingham Crescent, Sunshine West; Melway map 40 reference G4

The Friends of Kororoit Creek have worked enthusiastically at Buckingham Reserve for many years, in an effort to increase the conservation and habitat values of the area, indigenous grasses will be planted into the rocky outcrops to connect previous plantings along Kororoit Creek. Revegetation can improve water quality, so some Waterwatch monitoring will also be carried out to track the health of the creek.

Sunday 4 July

Ardeer Community Playground; Forrest Street, Ardeer; Melway map 26 reference B11

Ardeer Community Playground Committee Inc. along with the Ardeer and Albion community for several years have been working with the Council to develop the Ardeer Community Playground. 2008 saw all the hard work of the committee and the community come together with the installation of a magnificent playground and beautification of the surrounding area. To continue improving and maintaining this area, additional indigenous species will be planted in the ‘nature zone’.

Sunday 11 July

Kororoit Creek Deer Park; End of Davitt Drive, Deer Park; Melway map 25 reference B6

Kororoit Creek is one of the major water courses in the western suburbs of Melbourne and features many majestic rocky escarpments, walking trails, native waterfowl and even the occasional wallaby. This activity will involve planting adjacent to the indigenous wildflower display garden to increase the coverage of indigenous grasses.

Saturday 24 July

Kororoit Creek Escarpment; Tower Street, Ardeer; Melway map 26 reference C11

Emerging from the large basalt boulders lining the banks of Kororoit Creek are several indigenous grass species, including Kangaroo rass (Themeda triandra) which we will be expanding to increase the conservation values of the area. Volunteers can also help to conduct water quality monitoring, where we’ll look at several water quality parameters like turbidity and nutrient levels. Wild Action will be coming along with their display of local native animals, including a fruit bat, tawny frog-mouth and swamp wallaby to name a few.
